Climbing-style safety helmets offer both top and lateral protection and include a chin strap for a nice snug fit, which helps prevent the helmet coming off in the event of a fall. They are available in white or yellow, in wind vented or unvented styles.

Employees are likely to use comfortable PPE. Employers should consider comfort, fit and style while selecting PPE. An unvented safety helmet can trap heat and humidity, causing discomfort to its user. Using a vented safety helmet promotes airflow that keeps workers comfortable. Use a non-vented protective safety helmet if electrical hazards are present. Vents are a potential access point for electrical hazards. Avoid using vented safety helmets when the highest level of electrical protection is needed.
Vented safety helmets provide increased air circulation for greater comfort and meet ANSI Z89.1, Type II, Class C requirements.
Unvented safety helmets meet ANSI Z89.1, Type II, Class E and Class G requirements, which means they protect against electrical hazards.
ADDED PROTECTION FROM SAFETY HELMETS
In 2020, 43,540 workers suffered nonfatal head injuries involving days away from work. Because safety helmets offer both top and lateral protection, a growing number of employers nationally are choosing to use Type II helmets for their workers, recognizing the benefits of added head protection.
Safety helmets are designed to offer workers protection from impacts and shock. All J. J. Keller® SAFEGEAR® safety helmets meet ANSI Z89.1’s Type II requirements. Our safety helmets are further classified as meeting one of ANSI’s electrical classes: C, E, or G. Safety helmet colors, like white and yellow, can be used to identify workers. OSHA and ANSI don’t have hard hat color requirements in general workplace applications. J.J. Keller offers two safety helmet colors based on generally accepted meanings in the industry.
