Certified high-visibility apparel is required to adhere to garment design requirements established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) under ANSI/ISEA 107 2015. Certified clothing is categorized by type and performance class. The three certified types of apparel are: Type O, R, and P.

Certified performance classes are based on the amount of visible retroreflective materials on the garment. Class 1 has the least amount of reflective material, Class 2 has a bit more, and Class 3 has the most and is best suited for high-risk, struck-by work environments. J. J. Keller™ SAFEGEAR™ offers various styles of Type R Class 2 and Class 3 safety vests and T-shirts as well as Class 3 sweatshirts and jackets.
